Recreational Activities Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC) A major contributor to the growth of water sports in the UAE, ADIMSC hosts the UIM World Formula Power-boat Championship, jet skiing and water skiing championships, windsurfing, yacht, dinghy racing and traditional sailing along with longboat events. Traditional Dhow Racing Traditional dhow races take place along the Corniche on UAE National Day (December 2), and at regular intervals between October and April. Game Fishing Fishing competitions are held at several clubs throughout the city. Game fishing includes marlin, sailfish, dorado, barracuda, kingfish and tuna among others. Sports Abu Dhabi possesses Zayed Sports City , a coliseum-like facility that hosts up to 65,000 spectators. Zayed Sports City is fully equipped for both indoor and outdoor events and can easily be transformed into an Olympic Village. In addition, The Public Authority for Youth and Sports has a program underway to build more sports facilities in an effort to host the 2006 Arab Games. Camel Racing A popular visitor attraction, camel races take place in the winter at the Al Wathba Track. Each race is a festival and consists of diverse events allowing visitors to witness an ancient and unique tradition. Horse Racing The UAE has dominated various international equestrian events for many years. The newly-renovated Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club has 2 race tracks, 500 stables, an equine swimming pool, an indoor riding school and an indoor show jumping area. Approximately 16 race meetings are held each year. Golf Abu Dhabi is home to 3 distinctive golf courses each with immaculate greens, clubhouses and lush fairways, making it the perfect destination for golf novices, enthusiasts and pros. One may choose from the Al Ghazal Golf Club, the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and the Abu Dhabi Golf and Equestrian Club. Various Sports Abu Dhabi offers excellent amenities for leisure activities such as shooting, scuba diving, archery, rock climbing, billiards, snooker, dune-buggy riding, dirt biking, sand skiing, dune surfing, go-karting, hang gliding, parachuting, cycling, caving and marksmanship. General Exhibitions Corporation (GEC) The exhibition and conference industry brings two advantages to Abu Dhabi : a focus on industry segments which lead to investments and contracts, in addition to visitors who increase growth in the tourism and hospitality sectors. The Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre Some of the largest and most important exhibitions in the Gulf take place at ADIEC including IDEX (International Defence Exhibition & Conference) and the Abu Dhabi Petroleum Exhibition and Conference. which The total exhibition space is over 500,000 square meters with exhibition halls, outdoor exhibition space, conference halls, chalets, a marine demonstration area, parade stands, helipads and a live demonstration area. Expansion plans to the adjacent World Trade Centre which include a hotel and conference facilities are expected to increase market share by 20% and are scheduled to be completed over the course of the next 10 years. Shopping Marina Mall Marina Mall is home to 165 local and international retailers, including shops, restaurants, a movie theatre and an entertainment centre. The mall is expanding its current facilities by adding a second phase which is currently in progress. Expansion plans will create 180 more retail spaces and 800 parking spots. Also, the expansion will include a snow city featuring skiing, sledding and ski chalets. Abu Dhabi Mall The mall is 200,000 square meters, with 247 high-end shops, restaurants, six cinema screens and an entertainment centre. Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre Also known as the “Gold Souks,” Madinat Zayed is one of the largest malls of its kind in the Middle East comprising 400 shops (most of which are gold merchants).
