Abu Dhabi plans to become the new cultural center in the UAE. Many projects that have already been successfully implemented prove that the emirate is on the right track. The latest addition to the Saadiyat Cultural Center in the UAE capital is an immersive, multi-sensory venue called teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi. The site was developed in collaboration with Japanese art collective teamLab and is planned to open 2024. The Saadiyat Cultural District is an ambitious project that aims to become one of the world's preeminent cultural destinations. With its museums, cultural centers and educational institutions, the district will have one of the highest concentrations of cultural experiences in the world. The area is already home to Louvre Abu Dhabi and Manarat Al Saadiyat, a cultural center that contributes to the region's vibrant arts scene with internationally relevant exhibitions and events, workshops and creative programs. Phenomena follows already successfully implemented projects such as the Al Hosn Cultural Campus which opened in 2018 and features a permanent exhibition showing how people and especially the royal family have lived and ruled over the past 200 years. The fortress is now surrounded by a 140,000-square-meter cultural area with a palm garden, amphitheater, a workshop for traditional crafts and a cultural foundation. The focus is less on the works of art and their significance than on the history of the artists, their origins and tradition. The cultural area is intended to bring the Emirati closer to their cultural history in an unobtrusive way.
