Abu Dhabi as new cultural center: investments in several industries
Abu Dhabi plans to become the new cultural center in the UAE. Many projects that have already been successfully implemented prove that the emirate is on the right track. The government already pledged 2.3 billion dollars for projects in the arts and cultural sector. Moreover, it is planned to invest six billion dollars over the next five years in the construction of museums and in sectors ranging from media, gambling and music to architecture and art.
Mineral resources such as oil have made Abu Dhabi rich and enabled the city to grow extremely fast in recent decades. Nevertheless, neighboring countries are also competing for the status as the top tourist destination in the Middle East. To remain competitive, oil is no longer sufficient. Abu Dhabi is therefore looking to massively support and expand cultural institutions, including museums such as the upcoming Zayed National Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi. The performing arts, media and gaming sectors will also see further investment in their diverse programs and initiatives. Abu Dhabi's vision is to enrich the emirate's cultural landscape and promote the industries to position the UAE capital as a center for innovation and creativity. With culture as a key factor for social and economic development, the emirate is becoming a globally renowned center for talent and a leading producer of creative content. Abu Dhabi is committed to expanding artistic and cultural expression by offering its people and visitors a diverse cultural program that stimulates creativity and knowledge development, creating an active and artistically aware metropolis which is connected to its traditional and cultural roots.
One example of expansion is Saadiyat Island. Located only a few minutes from Abu Dhabi's center, the 27 square kilometers of Saadiyat Island have become a world-class leisure, residential, commercial and cultural center in recent years. The latest addition to the Saadiyat Cultural Center in the UAE capital is an immersive, multi-sensory venue called teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi. The site was developed in collaboration with Japanese art collective teamLab and is planned to open 2024. The Saadiyat Cultural District is an ambitious project that aims to become one of the world's preeminent cultural destinations. With its museums, cultural centers and educational institutions, the district will have one of the highest concentrations of cultural experiences in the world. The area is already home to Louvre Abu Dhabi and Manarat Al Saadiyat, a cultural center that contributes to the region's vibrant arts scene with internationally relevant exhibitions and events, workshops and creative programs. Phenomena follows already successfully implemented projects such as the Al Hosn Cultural Campus which opened in 2018 and features a permanent exhibition showing how people and especially the royal family have lived and ruled over the past 200 years. The fortress is now surrounded by a 140,000-square-meter cultural area with a palm garden, amphitheater, a workshop for traditional crafts and a cultural foundation. The focus is less on the works of art and their significance than on the history of the artists, their origins and tradition. The cultural area is intended to bring the Emirati closer to their cultural history in an unobtrusive way.
The cultural investment plans are not limited to the creative sector, but other industries will be included as well. It is even rumored that legalization of local gambling is imminent. Various renowned casino operators are already waiting for this, hoping to gain large sums of money in the tourist hotspot Abu Dhabi. Up to now, gambling in the United Arab Emirates has predominantly taken place online via proxy servers and VPN tunnels. Online gambling halls combine the wide range and authentic gaming experience of local casinos with convenient accessibility via laptop and smartphone from home. Finding a reputable online casino is now very easy. Free comparison portals help to find a suitable casino. These provide test reports and create a ranking in terms of game selection, bonus offers and other attractive conditions. This allows players to choose one of the reputable providers, for example online casinos in Saudi Arabia. In addition to the usage of comparison portals, players who want to be completely secure can make deposits and withdrawals with cryptocurrencies. These are not traceable and belong to the safest means of payment, so there is no need to worry about personal data and gambling fun can start immediately.
