Considered among the most vibrant and modern cities in the world, Abu Dhabi is the federal capital of the United Arab Emirates . The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is the largest of the seven emirates that comprise the country, and encompasses the city of Abu Dhabi as well as Al Ain. In the 40 years since the discovery of oil, Abu Dhabi ’s economy has boomed, and the city has flourished thanks to the promotion of tourism, enchanting gardens and parks, marvellous architecture, high-rise skyscrapers, the presence of major international luxury hotels and world-class shopping centres. The city offers a large number of attractions that provide fascinating insights into local history, culture, and the traditions of a bygone era, while being home to some ultra contemporary developments. Today, Abu Dhabi is embracing its urban feel by placing more emphasis on promoting tourism in the course of lessening its reliance on the traditional oil industry and thus diversifying the sources of its national income and cultural multiplicity. New Projects & Developments Emirates Palace Operated by luxury hotel group Kempinski Hotels & Resorts, Emirates Palace showcases the beauty of Arabian culture, adhering to traditional themes and has a natural affinity with the national identity of the United Arab Emirates . The Palace is an architectural wonder and an international landmark- boasting 302 luxury rooms, 92 ultra luxurious suites and the Emirates Palace International Conference Centre which houses the most technologically advanced meeting facilities in the region. Al Reem Island Located approximately 600 meters away from Abu Dhabi ’s coast, Al Reem Island will be one of the largest and most impressive tourist developments in the world. The development will be one of the city’s hallmarks and a main tourist attraction. The island will house hotels, restaurants, gardens, museums, an aquarium, amusement parks for children and a diverse wildlife reserve. The Corniche Although a big portion of the Corniche’s renovation is complete, there is still more work to be done before the project is fully completed. Even before its finalization, the Corniche Road has turned into a major tourist and recreational centre. The project undertook the responsibility of expanding along the coast which is situated in the middle of the city, and improving its frivolous, entertainment facilities. Abu Dhabi International Airport expansion The Abu Dhabi International Airport is presently undergoing a $254 million expansion that will include a futuristic new satellite terminal. The expansion is set to increase the airport’s present capacity from 4.3 million to 7.2 million within a five year period from its launch. In addition, it is expected to increase cargo capacity by 350,000 tons per year. Abu Dhabi World Trade Centre Scheduled for completion over the next 10 years, the World Trade Centre is expanding to include a high-rise complex, hotel and business and conference facilities. The complex is adjacent to The Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre and will provide a one-stop location for business dealings. It is expected to increase conference and exhibition trade by 20%. Others: Al Ain University campus, Capital Plaza, Grand Mosque, Mina Zayed container terminal and Abu Dhabi University campus expansion.
