UAE Is Among Key Advocates For Protecting Women’s, Children’s, And Adolescents’ Wellbeing
(14 August 2016)

The UAE has always been keen to take an initiative in advancing international joint efforts aimed at protecting women's, children's and adolescents' wellbeing across the world, Rym Abdulla Al Falasy, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, told the International Health Partnership (IHP+) online consultation.

Al Falasy, also member of the High-Level Advisory Group on Every Woman Every Child (EWEC), an unprecedented global movement that mobilizes and intensifies international and national action by governments, multilaterals, the private sector and civil society to address the major health challenges facing women, children and adolescents around the world, outlined the active role of the UAE as a generous donor of assistance for protection of women, children, and adolescents in regions vulnerable to risk.

She indicated that the UAE hosted a meeting of EWEC stakeholders and experts last April to develop a 5-year plan for implementation of the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescents’ Health (2016-2030). The meeting was part of the efforts to implement the updated Global Strategy 2016-2030 for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health, which was launched by the UN in September 2015, building on new evidence since the original Global Strategy of 2010, and aligning with the targets and indicators developed for the Sustainable Development Goals framework.

She also referred to the high-level briefing hosted by the UAE on Every Woman, Every Child Everywhere, during the World Humanitarian Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey, last May.

The consultation meeting examined priorities, targets and indicators as well as the roadmap concerning missions of the group for the rest of the year. Recommendations of member countries were also discussed.

The consultation process was a critical stage in transforming IHP+ and explored the strategic direction and scope of work of universal health coverage 2030.
