(1 May 2017)

The Cultural Programme at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is centralised around specialised seminars, highlighting the ways in which Arab artistic, intellectual and literary issues relate to the rest of the world. The unique programme features diverse approaches to the transformation of the Arab cultural landscape in recent years.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), and runs until 2 May 2017 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

With ‘humanity’ as the focal point, this year’s edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair has embraced the blending of diverse cultures and communities within the UAE, and has welcomed China as the ‘Guest Country of Honour’, opening channels of knowledge and cultural cooperation between the two countries. In a unique programme of artistic and cultural events, Abu Dhabi International Book Fair has invited 129 speakers from across the world, to lead the diverse range of seminars and share their insights on the nature of philosophy and the presence of religious discourse within the UAE.

From China, eight honorary members have been invited each of who are skilled, award-winning literary authors.

Through its diverse range of activities, the programme highlights the idea of the integration of arts.

Mustafa Said, a distinguished Egyptian musician, musicologist and oud virtuoso, will present his thesis on the evolution of Arabic music, through various musical performances on multiple days.

The programme will also pay tribute to the philosopher and spiritual teacher, Ibn Arabi, who has been selected as this year’s ‘Personality of the Year’, and further articulate his ideas through Arabic calligraphy and music.

The region’s fastest-growing book fair, ADIBF 2017 has gained acclaim for bringing together leading international authors, publishers, artists and exhibitors from across the world in a vibrant celebration of the region’s literary landscape. This year, the fair offers visitors more than 800 captivating activities to engage in across the exhibition’s floor.
