23 Awarded Technology Innovation Pioneers Win Prizes worth AED 3 Million with AED 30 Million Potential Funding from Interested Investors for Implementation Nationally and Internationally

The Technology Innovation Pioneers Healthcare Awards and Conference, the first of its kind initiative in the region, was held at the New York University, Abu Dhabi with high level attendance including H.E. Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman, Department of Health-Abu Dhabi and H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Hajeri, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi, and the participation of international government representation, funding investors, as well as experts and executives in the innovation and healthcare sectors from across the globe. 

The conference also witnessed honoring the total of 23 award-winners with prizes worth 3 million dirhams in cash and in-kind out of 1182 applicants in addition to AED 30 Million interest in facilitated funding from perspective investors. Applicants went through a rigorous selection process conducted by an international technical committee to ensure submissions were studies in detail by the right people and to ensure full transparency of the process.

H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed Chairman of the Department of Health Abu Dhabi and H.E. Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi, presented the awards endorsing the importance of such initiatives bringing the public, private and academic sectors together to provide quality cutting edge services through technology and innovation, positioning Abu Dhabi as a global hub for innovation aligned with the UAE’s 2071 centennial plan.

The program included keynotes by H.E. Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman, Department of Health-Abu Dhabi and H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Hajri, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi who reconfirmed the importance of transferring innovations from the scientific sphere to the on-the ground practices in order to optimize actual results in various medical specialties.

H.E. Eng. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy said “The Ministry of Economy highly recognizes the significance of the Technology Innovation Pioneers Platform (TIP) in healthcare which plays a key role in developing key tools for the sector, and add value to the initiatives undertaken by the UAE to develop an integrated system that supports innovation and encourage entrepreneurship through new technologies.”

“The initiative will stimulate research and development activities, increase the rate of patent registration in the health sector and enhance its attractiveness as strong investment platforms. He added that this requires more contribution from the private sector by supporting and funding the inventors to transform their creativity into something productive and deliver the development we all aspire for.”

H.E. Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences said: "we are delighted that the first Technology and Innovation Pioneers Healthcare Award & Conference in the region has strengthened the status of the UAE and the capital Abu Dhabi as a global center for innovation and medical and scientific research, which in return raise the country's positing in various global indexes in line with the national agenda.”

H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman, Department of Health- Abu Dhabi, said: “We are proud to translate the far-sighted leadership vision for the Emirate’s healthcare sector and our tool to reach that is by innovation and technology. With TIP Healthcare Awards we aim to attract innovations that contribute to solve healthcare challenges including public health. What make us prouder is that we are the first government entity in the region to that created the link between investors and healthcare innovators.”

Al Hamed added: “We are striving for the true leadership raising the quality of healthcare service through the participation of all stakeholders in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi including both the public and private sectors. Undoubtedly, Technology and Innovation Pioneers Healthcare Conference & awards will create an integrated platform that we will develop in the future not only annually, but also through regular participation in the most important medical local, regional and global forums."

Commenting at the event, H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Hajeri, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi, noted that "We are here today to endorse our commitment towards supporting innovation and technology reflecting its alignment to Abu Dhabi's Economic Vision, and positioning Abu Dhabi as a true hub for global innovation. We inaugurated the TIP Platform, the first of its kind in the region, to provide an innovation ecosystem to accelerate research and create innovative solutions towards key challenges presented in partnership with both the government and private sectors, encouraging dynamic cross-collaboration to achieve unique results.”
He added: "such initiatives will open doors to new business ventures, creating new career opportunities in the private sector, which supports and promotes the diversification of the economic landscape of Abu Dhabi in a sustainable way. ."
The conference was attended by many local, regional and international government officials, private businesses and investors, as well as academia and scientists, including the renowned Professor Stan Kachniewski of Columbia University in New York.

The VIP officials toured the exhibition area that included 50 of the shortlisted innovative projects and technology start-ups focused in the healthcare sector, and were given an overview on each, outlining the investment opportunities and target markets.

The TIP conference held various panel discussions on innovation, which included representatives from various global organizations both government and private sectors, which covered topics from the UAE future of technology innovation pioneers in Healthcare for UAE 2071, the private sectors contribution and how AI is changing the future of healthcare to the role of the government in catalyzing innovation towards production, 4IR, future jobs, and emerging technologies as well as the future of healthcare and its success stories. The final segment of the conference included case studies and presentations by Michael Davis,COO of NMC, Oleg Kondrashov, the CEO of Encata as well as Prof. Dr. Marcos Brioschi, President of InfraREDMed from Brazil. ‘

Dr. shouqi Karbash, CEO of UAEU Science park , held a panel discussion on the success stories in the health care sector, which included extensive research on the importance of the private sector in partnership with the public sector and regulatory and legislative bodies in the development of the health sector and its future, A session on the future of jobs in the health care sector within the Fourth Industrial Revolution before concluding the conference with a session on global best practices and recommendations for the development of leadership in technology and innovation in the health sector and its application on the ground to Locally and globally.

The TIP submissions were from across the globe, with submissions from north & south America, to Europe, Russia, the region and Australia, and included projects from academic institutes such as The UAE University, Khalifa University, New York University, the American University of Sharjah, and Sharjah University in addition to both Emirati and global innovative project start-ups.
