NYUAD Names Recipients Of 2014-2015Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Scholarship For Outstanding High School Students
(8 June 2014)

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) today announced the 32 recipients of its Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholarship for Outstanding High School Students, who will participate in an 18-month enrichment program designed specifically for academically outstanding Abu Dhabi-based Emirati high school students. Named Summer Academy, the program seeks to prepare participants for admission to renowned international institutes and universities.

Students in the program are introduced to various areas pertaining to critical thinking, English, writing, mathematical reasoning, public speaking, and leadership. They also attend small group classes, learn about University admissions requirements, and receive counseling and coaching in standardized test preparation.

Each course is led by an NYUAD–selected instructor who provides a profound engagement into a rigorous English–language academic environment.

“This program is aimed at providing both academic and intellectual development for students to be able to think independently and develop a passion for lifelong learning,” said HH Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who serves as a key advisor to the program. “Not only does this scholarship help students develop the confidence they need to succeed in their higher education, it also provides cross-cultural and academic exposure to help students excel in an increasingly competitive and globalized environment.”

Summer Academy, which encompasses two summers following the 10th and 11th grades — along with three semesters of online and in-person instruction throughout the academic year — presents the benefits of a liberal arts education to students through a sustained academic and cultural experience at NYU’s global sites in Abu Dhabi, New York, and Florence, Italy.

Diane C. Yu, executive director of the Summer Academy and deputy president of NYU, said: “These high-achieving students have been selected through a rigorous application and interview process based on their exceptional academic achievements, strong English-language capabilities, leadership potential, and demonstration of the commitment and desire for self-development. We welcome this newest class into our college preparatory academy and look forward to seeing them grow through this experience of intellectual challenge and discovery.”
