’Drumming as the Lights Go Out’
(1 April 2012)
Abu Dhabi Festival Support World Wildlife Fund in Global Energy Conservation Event

Hundreds took to the drums at the Abu Dhabi Corniche last night to celebrate Earth Hour, joining as millions of people around the world switched off their lights to support a greener tomorrow. The Earth-toned djembe was definitely the drum of choice for most, while congas, tambourines and even a few steel drums brought life to the cacophony.

“Earth Hour is a global initiative that aims to spread awareness among the city’s residents about the importance of energy conservation and the small changes each and every one of us can make to reduce our consumption of electricity,” said Mrs Hoda Al Khamis Kanoo, Founder, Abu Dhabi Festival.

Earth Hour is a global event organized by the World Wildlife Fund and is held annually on the last Saturday of March. Experts have contended the overall effect of the event is equivalent to taking 48,613 cars off the road for 1 hour, whilst the broader goal is to raise awareness about climate change and encourage action.
