13th Francophonie Summit Approves UAE As Observer Member

The 13th Francophonie Summit in Montreux has approved the nomination of UAE as an observer member of the International Organization of Francophonie.

Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State headed UAE delegation to the summit which was held here during the period from 22 to October 24.

In her speech on this occasion, Reem Al Hashemi said: "The selection of UAE to join Organization of La Francophonie came in recognition of the fact that French language occupies an important place in the cultural and educational fields in the state".

For his part, Abdou Diouf, Secretary General of the Organisation internationale de la francophonie (OIF) stressed the importance of UAE’s induction to the organization as an observer member, considering this an indication of UAE leadership’s keenness to promote international cooperation with all the cultures of the world.
