World Academic leaders will convene in Abu Dhabi to explore higher education opportunities

Academic leaders from around the world will convene on December 6-7, 2009 in Abu Dhabi to explore the challenges and opportunities for global higher education at a conference on Higher Education in the Global Age, hosted by the NYU Abu Dhabi Institute.

The two-day event will be held at the Al Mamoura Auditorium in Abu Dhabi, four panels will address different dimensions of the topic: the role of universities in fostering intercultural understanding; the need to accommodate surging populations in emerging educational markets; the evolution of universities as interconnected global institutions; and universities as engines of sustainable development.

Among the moderators and panelists will be leaders in higher education from around the world, including: Al Bloom, vice chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi; Jehuda Reinharz, president of Brandeis University (U.S.); Yu Lizhong, president of East China Normal University; Rafic Makki, head of institutional partnerships at the Abu Dhabi Education Council; Allan E. Goodman, president and CEO of the Institute of International Education; John Sexton, president of New York University; Hilary Inyang, president of the African University of Science and Technology (Nigeria); Stephanie Fahey, deputy vice chancellor and vice-president, Monash University (Australia); Wilmot James, Democratic Alliance shadow minister of higher education and training,South Africa; Yves Meny, president, European University Institute, Italy; and Robert Berdahl, president of the American Association of Universities.
