Abu Dhabi Pulls Off World’s First Ayala Flash-Mob
(19 January 2014)
Unexpected moments continue at Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

The traditional Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship prize giving presentation sprung into life today when proceedings were unexpectedly interrupted by the world’s first Emirati Ayala dance flash-mob.

The Ayala, a traditional Emirati celebratory dance, was particularly fitting for the occasion given the success of the 2014 Championship.

As fans gathered for the official prize giving ceremony, a selection of‘spectators’, stewards and a marshalsporting a ‘quiet’ sign came together for the action-packed session of fun and entertainment. Crowds from around the world enjoyed the unexpected moment as the sun set on the stunning 18th green of the National Course following a memorable day that saw Pablo Larrazábaltake home the coveted Falcon trophy.

Unsuspecting spectator Sonia Maxwell Taylor from Sydney, Australia said: “I feel honoured to have gotten to participate in the world’s first Ayala flashmob. I didn’t expect anything like this when I came here today – it was a big surprise. It was my first time seeing the Ayala dance, and it was truly an exhilarating experience participating in front of an international audience. It was a lot of fun, and I think I had a great teacher who showed me how to twirl and how to do the shimmy. This was my first time attending the Championship, and I’m sure I’ll be back.”
