The Socceroos Are Coming To Abu Dhabi
(31 August 2014)

The Socceroos, Australias national football team, are coming to Abu Dhabi to take on the UAE in an international friendly on 10 October 2014.

Australia is gearing up to host the AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015, which kicks off in January, and the Socceroos are taking on The Whites as they prepare for the challenges of the tournament in a game to be played at the home of Al-Jazira Sports Club.

Fans will be able to take in all the action at the impressive Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium as the Socceroos, who took part in the recent World Cup, go head-to-head with star player Omar Abdulrahman and the rest of the UAE team.

The Socceroos boast players plying their trade in the worlds best leagues, with their stars gathering from Italys Serie A (Fiorentina), Germanys Bundesliga (Borussia Dortmund) and Englands Premier League (Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace) not to mention Vice-Captain and talisman Tim Cahill, who plays in the MLS for the New York Red Bulls.

After taking on the UAE, Australia will head to Qatar for another friendly on 14 October, with Socceroos Head Coach Ange Postecoglou saying the fixtures against the UAE and Qatar will be great preparation for the AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015.

"We will get some good hit outs against Asian opposition to help us prepare for the Asian Cup, said Postecoglou.

The game is being supported by the tourism industry, in co-ordination with Yas Island and the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).

With Socceroo fans expected to make the journey from Down Under to the UAE capital for the match, we are working with the tourism authority to ensure they are fully versed with what the destination has to offer and get some great deals, said FFA CEO David Gallop.

For many, it will be there first time in the Arabian Gulf and were sure they be excited at what they find.
