The 2014 World Future Energy Summit, hosted by Masdar in Abu Dhabi,isexpecting a significant turnout from the world’s most dominant country in the renewable energy sector, with 10 per cent of the event’s net exhibition space reserved for Chinese companies.

Forty Chinese companies have so far signed upforthe seventh edition of the Summit, now established as the leading global platform for the adoption of renewable energy, clean technology and sustainable development. Companies from 40 countries including China will be represented at the event.

WFES will once again host a dedicated China Pavilion and hundreds of Chinese professionalvisitors are expected, exceeding the 523 attendees from the Chinese mainland atWFES 2013.

China has the most installed renewable energy power capacity in the world at 90 gigawatts (GW), according to the latest Global Status Report released earlier this year by the renewable energy advocacy group REN21.That is nearly 20 per cent of the world total of 480GW.

“China’s investment in renewable energy continues apaceand the benefits of that commitment will be on show toboth exhibition visitors and conference delegates at WFES 2014,” said Naji El Haddad, WFES Show Director.
“China has unparalleled experience in ramping up significant capacity in various renewable sources of energy, not only solar. This experience will be a huge asset to planners and policy makers in the GCC states as they seek to deliver on a series of ambitious targets for the deployment of renewable energy in the years ahead.”

China’s 12th Five Year Plan, for 2011-2015, has earmarked US$294 billion for domestic renewable energy projects and a further US$376 billion to invest in energy efficiency technologies and carbon emissions reduction.
Chinese companies confirmed for WFES 2014 include leading solar PV and wind energy companies such asHanergy Holding, Suntech, Yingli Solar, JA Solar, Talesun, and Jinko Solar, who see the event as a gateway to potential business partnerships across MENA.

With all the GCC states setting targets for renewable energy production, the regional appetite for renewables is creating demand for technology and know-how from all corners of the world, not only the traditional markets of Europe and the United States.

Saudi Arabia alone has pledged to install 54GW of renewable energy supply by 2032, of which 16GW is expected to come from solar PV, 25GW from concentrated solar power and 9GW from wind.

Collaboration in renewables and sustainable technology between China and emerging markets will be further promoted during WFES at a special side event hosted by the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association and the International Renewable Energy Agency, which is headquartered in Abu Dhabi.

Open to registered WFES visitors, ‘China Day’ will receive ministerial level representatives from the Chinese government and guest speakers from leading corporations.

Last year’s World Future Energy Summit received more than 26,000 attendees and 650 exhibiting companies from 40 countries.

Hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, the World Future Energy Summit 2014 takes place from January 20-22 in Abu Dhabi. The seventh edition of the Summit is the centerpiece of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a global platform that addresses the interconnected challenges affecting the widespread acceleration and adoption of sustainable development and renewable energy.

WFESwill be co-located with the second International Water Summit and the inaugural EcoWASTE exhibition, also hosted by Masdar.
