UAE establishes culture of personal security for nationals travelling abroad
The UAE aims to establish the importance of personal security among its nationals travelling outside the country, regardless of their destination and the purpose of their visit, through a package of necessary awareness and guidance procedures and preparations.
In an exclusive statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the "Personal Security in Travel and Honourable National Representation" seminar that was organised by the Kelna UAE Association yesterday, at the headquarters of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi, the writer, Thani Mubarak Al Dhaheri, stressed that personal security for individuals is necessary for their own safety, as well as to improve the safety of their belongings.
He pointed out that travellers should treat their priority list with caution when travelling, especially with their families, to avoid attempts of fraud, robbery or other forms of harm.
He explained that the responsibility of safety while travelling is not only for official security authorities, but it is also the responsibility of all community members while highlighting the necessity of following travel guidelines to avoid potential dangers.
Al Dhaheri also stressed the importance of improving the sense of security and national awareness of community members, especially those travelling for official tasks, medical treatment, education or business. He added that the nation is above all other considerations, especially for travellers, as representing the nation in a good manner is a national duty, and individuals should consider that when they leave their nation, they carry their nation’s name and should appear in a manner that befits their country’s stature.
Rashid Ali Al Dhaheri, Director of the National Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, stressed the ministry’s desire and interest in the country’s nationals, to facilitate their travels and residency status, and guarantee their safety while outside the country. He also highlighted the importance of following travel advice and reviewing travel warnings on the ministry’s website in the National Affairs Department page, which includes all relevant information and services that correspond to the needs of UAE nationals while travelling abroad.
He also highlighted the necessity of registering on the "Twajudi" Service, to enable the ministry and the country’s consular services abroad to communicate with its nationals in times of emergencies and crises during their travels outside the country, through the ministry’s website or its smart application. The UAE’s nationals can also communicate immediately with the ministry through Twitter, he added.
Rashid Al Dhaheri stressed the necessity for UAE nationals to follow the ministry’s advice about respecting the public laws of their host countries, and to represent the UAE in an honourable manner while abroad. He also stressed the necessity of co-operating with official authorities upon their arrival at their destination airports and to divulge important personal information if required, such as their period of stay, their location, travel ticket information, their return date, and the total amount of cash they are carrying while in the host country.
There are several pieces of advice that UAE nationals should follow to avoid potential dangers, such as travelling to locations with security disturbances. They should also choose the appropriate accommodation that is safe and secure, and avoid places that do not meet those requirements. They should also not leave children on their own while outside and avoid going out alone, especially late at night.
They should also not exaggerate their appearance by wearing valuable items that attract attention in public places, which are visited by people of various nationalities and backgrounds. While accompanying non-Emirati companions, they should still follow the regular procedures to obtain pre-entry visas, and consider taking a written letter from their sponsor, and handle all the expenses of their servants.
