Special Olympics And Yas Marina Circuit Host Monthly Cycle Unified Sessions

Cyclists of all ages, abilities, fitness levels and speeds are invited to take part in a special Cycle Unified ride around Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit. Just in time for the cooler months, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 has announced the next three dates for the unified cycling sessions. The sessions will be held on the last Sunday of every month from 6 – 10pm for the rest of the year, with 2019 dates to be announced in due course.

Unified Sports is a key initiative of Special Olympics, which encourages people with and without intellectual disabilities to play alongside each other on the same team. The initiative aims to break down stereotypes and promote social inclusion. The LOC of the upcoming World Games in Abu Dhabi has run several Unified events in the run up to the World Games including the hugely successful Walk Unified events.

Cycle Unified is open to the general public and all people of determination – with people with and without intellectual disabilities being encouraged to ride, side-by-side. Cycle Unified is part of a series of community-focused events being held throughout the UAE in the build up to the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 from March 14-21. The event is part of the StartYAS™ program by Daman’s ActiveLife Health Authority Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Sports Council that welcomes people with all levels of fitness and speeds looking to engage in embracing a healthy lifestyle to run and bike around the world-famous Circuit.

The popular StartYAS™ evenings are a wonderful opportunity for budding athletes and keen cyclists to see the Yas Marina Circuit from trackside and experience the 5.5k course for themselves, free of charge.

Members of the Abu Dhabi community are encouraged to participate in the Cycle Unified event and ride around the track alongside people of determination in a show of unity and respect – the core ideals of the Special Olympics – in a unique, safe and friendly environment.

Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be the most unified Games in the history of Special Olympics and will offer an inclusive experience for those with and without intellectual disabilities.
