Hidden Gems of Abu Dhabi
It is very apparent that visitors and residents to Abu Dhabi are unaware of the many hidden gems lurking, unpublicised, in or around Abu Dhabi. Whilst these ’gems’ might not be adventurous we think they will appeal to those who like the quirky side of Abu Dhabi life.
Noukhada, with your help, intends to build up a list of these hidden attractions and mini adventures.
Futaisi Island cafe (the land and island that time forgot!)
Red Sea Antiques (the best place to buy regional antiques and not so antiques)
The green cafe in the cultural centre (not sure if it is open)
The 1957 sand model of Abu Dhabi (not sure if it is open)
The whale skeleton in the middle of town (hidden in the base of one of the towers of the fort, currently closed)
The Liwa car museum (bizarre but great for petrol heads)
The 80 foot floating Noah’s Ark at Al Bateen (not public but has to be seen to be believed)
The Meena Zayed fish market and fisherman’s wharf (sadly being closed and relocated to next to The Club)
The history of Abu Dhabi exhibition (never working) and aquarium (never open) at Khalifa Park
The full scale wooden dhow at Khalifa Park (water never flowing)
The camel endurance track and market (where we trail bike from)
The second hand cars at Mussafah (another one for petrol heads...E-type in the sand)
The livestock market at Al Ain (not been there but told that it is great)
The UAE’s largest bird cage with a huge ’pet’ eagle in it (our trail bike runs start here)
White water raft run and kayak run in Al Ain (details coming)
Climbing wall in Reem Island (details coming)
Swan 42 yacht charter from ADIMSC
Etc...
Please tell us what you have found and share the hidden gems with others.
